WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ANY SECOND LANGUAGE EXPERIENCE? SHOULD I STILL USE THIS BOOK WITH MY CHILD?DLI Parent Books are best used when a parent and child have some second language experience or are enrolled in a language learning program. The phonetic translations provided in the activities can help guide the user in their reading of each conversation phrase, but it's best to have some formal instruction to hear the proper pronunciation. There are several free language learning apps that can give you an introduction into the second language. Many people I've met have even learned a second language using YouTube videos. For some, like myself, I prefer the old fashioned route of enrolling in a class. It would be ideal if you and your child had some form of instruction. DLI Parent Books are more of a companion book to your other language learning resources.

WHICH BOOK DO I CHOOSE?The Primary Level books are written for children in Pre-School to Second Grade. Parents will model the language as children will repeat and learn simple words and phrases. The focus of the conversation prompts are for geared toward children that will talk about what happens in school. Home-schooled children may not have the same experiences in the conversation prompts, but the adult can pick and choose the phrases that are applicable to them. The conversation prompts were derived from my own experience in speaking with my children about school, so feel free to skip over any dialogue prompts or activities that are not applicable to you. Books for older Children and Adults will be available by Winter of 2022.

WOULD THE PRIMARY BOOKS BE GOOD FOR A 9 YEARS OLD?The goal of the books are to have a conversation in Spanish. If the child already knows Spanish, then the Primary Level books wouldn't be appropriate since the activities are catered towards little ones learning to write and color. If your older child or adult is learning Spanish, then I think the value in the books is merely repeating the phrases and going through the activities by speaking exclusively in Spanish. I believe that older kids and adults should focus on having a conversation in Spanish rather than focus on the activity itself. Can they understand and respond to the scripted prompts in Spanish? Are they able to grasp the intent of the prompts and follow along to the activity?
